The Urals tour commences and concludes in Ekaterinburg:

Flights into and out of Ekaterinburg are available by Lufthansa from Frankfurt and by Czech Airlines from Prague. You may also travel into the Perm or Ekaterinburg by Train from Moscow (over 2 days) if you prefer. Imperial Holidays can assist you with these arrangements.


Tears in the Urals Program Perm (2 nights) – Overnight Train (1 night) – Tyumen (1 night)– Tobolsk (overnight train)– Ekaterinburg (4nights) includes 1 day in Alapayevsk – You will be in Ekaterinburg for the 92nd anniversary of the assassinations of the Imperial family on July 16, 1918.

 

For the many Romanov enthusiasts around the world this tour takes you to all the major sites associated with this family’s immense tragedy, particularly the sites most closely linked to Nicholas II and Alexandra. This tour takes you to the sites relative to the deaths of members of the Imperial Family in 1918. Leading the tour will be Terry Boland, History lecturer, teacher and specialist in the lives of the Romanov family. Ideally there will need to be a group of at least six travelers

 

A second tour, Laughter in the Crimea, TOUR IHL2 takes you to the Romanov holiday palaces in and around Yalta and from which many of the survivors were rescued in 1919. This tour commences in Yalta on September 17, 2010 and again in 2011 Itinerary and Price


 

 

If you have long been fascinated with the Tragic Story of Nicholas & Alexandra and their children, then this tour will be most rewarding as you visit at first hand Ekaterinburg and Alapayevsk on the anniversary of the Imperial Assassinations. There are no standard tours to these locations – it is unique to Imperial Holidays and you will be escorted by local guides with a profound knowledge of the Romanov Family.

TOUR IHS1 – Itinerary – The start point and finish point for this tour is Ekaterinburg.

 


Day 1: July 10: Arrival by air in Ekaterinburg. Meeting and transfer to the city centre. Breakfast is available at a local restaurant before boarding the train for Perm. Lunch is your own arrangement on board the train. On arrival in Perm transfer to your hotel for dinner, free time and overnight in Perm. Meals: Breakfast, Dinner

 


Day 2: July 11: A full day in Perm will begin with your tour of the city. Included will be a visit to Sibirskaya Street featuring “Hotel No.1” where Mikhail Romanov lived before he was murdered; the Governor’s House; Peter & Paul Cathedral; the Opera House (seats where GD Michael sat); Assumption Convent (Ella stayed here on an earlier visit); and Yegoshikhinskoye Cemetery (shared grave of Hendrikovo and Schneider).

 

After lunch visit the Chusovoy region to see “Perm-36”; on the way there will be a stop at the chapel built on the site where MikhaiL Romanov was killed. Next you will travel back to Perm for dinner at “Zhivago” restaurant and overnight in Perm Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

 

Day 3: July 12: After breakfast transfer from Perm to Kypchino and on to Chysovoy for lunch at a local café. From Chysovoy we will transfer to Whitehill/Belogorsky Monastery where we will spend an afternoon exploring this important site. Dinner will be in the Monastery’s refectory after which we will return to Perm to board our overnight train to Tyumen. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

 


 

Day 4: July 13: Arrival in Tyumen: Transfer to your hotel for breakfast and shower. Your city tour will then take you to visit the house where the nun to Nicholas II lived; visit Russia’s national gold reserve – also the place where Lenin’s body was hidden; see the actual site where the Romanov family transferred from train to ship on their fateful journey (marked today with a plaque and an Orthodox cross). Included also is a visit to the Museum of the History of the House on republic Street – Museum of Local Lore where Alexander II stayed in 1837 whilst he was the heir apparent, and Ikonnikov’s farmstead. Overnight in Tyumen Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

 

 

 



 

 

DAY 5: July 14: You are now approaching the sites related to the tragic last days of the imprisoned Imperial Family, as after breakfast you will depart for Tobolsk. On the way there will be a stop in the village of Pokrovka to visit the museum of Rasputin. Lunch is at the restaurant “Anastasia” in the hotel “Slavyanskaya”. The Tobolsk city tour includes the study of Nicholas II and Zavalnoe Cemetery. Also included is a visit to the Kremlin of Tobolsk; Alderman’s palace; Tobolsk Monastery; Governor’s House; Kornilov House (currently closed for restoration); the Cathedral of the Intercession and Hermogen’s coffin; and the Cathedral of St Sophia (St John of Tobolsk) Tonight you will enjoy dinner at the restaurant “Romanov” before boarding your overnight train to Ekaterinburg. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

 

 

 

Day 6: July 15: On arrival in Ekaterinburg you are transferred to your hotel to shower and have breakfast. Then you will commence the day’s tours with a city tour; an excursion to Ganina Yama – the Romanov Monastery, Monastery of Blood, museum of Ekaterinburg’s ethnography, monument near the village of Koptyakie and Railway Station No 2. Dinner at your hotel, free time and overnight in Ekaterinburg. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner


Day 7: July 16: Breakfast at your Ekaterinburg hotel before your departure to another assassination site. You will spend a full day traveling to and from Alapayevsk. It was here on July 17, 1918 that six Romanov Grand Dukes and the Grand Duchess Ella (the sister to Empress Alexandra) were brutally murdered. You will also have time to take an excursion to the Tchaikovsky Museum and visit the Holy Trinity Cathedral Crypt where the martyrs were first buried; the Napolnaya School where Ella and the others were kept imprisoned, Holy Trinity Cathedral; the Novomuchenikoc Monastery or the New Martyrs Monastery near Sinyachikma. After lunch at the restaurant “Aura” we will visit the open air museum “Nizhnaya Sinyachikha”. This afternoon you will transfer back to Ekaterinburg for dinner and free time. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

 

 

 

Tonight marks the anniversary of the assassination of the Imperial Family and you are invited to attend the Monastery of Blood Memorial Service for the assassinated victims. The service commences at 23:00 hours.

 

Day 8: July 17: This morning at 4:00 there is the Procession from the Monastery of Blood to Ganina Yama (18 kilometres by foot) which retraces the journey of the Imperial bodied to their first burial site. This is optional for you. Then at 11:00 there is another optional Service inGanina Yama. After lunch at your hotel the afternoon is at leisure. Dinner is at your hotel. Overnight for your last night in the Urals district for this tour. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch Dinner

 

 

 

 

Day 9: July 18: After breakfast this morning, you will be transferred to the airport for your onward journey.
