Prague is the magical capital of the newly formed Czech Republic. Its location at the centre of Europe was home to many great rulers from King Wenceslas, to Charles IV (the Holy Roman Emperor), kings of Bohemia and the Habsburg Emperors. Each successive ruler left behind a glorious history and culture that is now yours to explore. Today, Prague is steeped in historical charm with museums, palaces, galleries, theatres and churches that are overwhelming in their richness. And from your city base you can step out to enjoy the rich Bohemian countryside.

This stopover can also be taken as an addition to other Imperial Holidays tours as per itineraries.

DAY 1: Monday: Arrival in Prague. Meet, greet and transfer to your central city hotel.
Evening: Welcome dinner - Prague By Night – river cruise and dinner Meals: Dinner

DAY 2: After breakfast this morning you will be taken on a guided walking tour and river cruise for an overview of the city. Sights will include the Old Town, Charles Bridge, Prague Castle, Wenceslas Square, the famous Astronomical Clock and then enjoy a light lunch in the Little Quarter. In the afternoon we will explore with our guide Prague’s historic Jewish Ghetto, its cemeteries and the synagogues. There will be time to go back to the hotel before tonight’s dinner. Evening: Dinner at the Kinski Palace Restaurant for genuine Czech food.

DAY 3: Today is an Imperial Holidays special treat!  You will spend a day in the countryside traveling just 20 km to Veltrusy Chateau on the banks of the Vltava river. But just down the road is Nelahozeves Castle where you will enjoy an amazing, exclusive day. The Castle has recently been restored to its former owners, the Princely Family of Lobkowicz and today you will be their guests. One of Europe’s finest private Art collections is housed here and in your wanderings through the castle you can enjoy works by Canaletto, Rubens, Bruegel and Valasquez among the 600 exhibits. There will be a medieval lunch served and time to visit the fine wine cellar of the Castle. In the afternoon (weather permitting) what can be more relaxing than to be taken by horse and carriage to explore the beautiful countryside. Then there is just a short trip back to your hotel. Then there is just a short trip back to your hotel in the mid afternoon. Evening: Free

DAY 4: Today provides another city experience as you explore the many sights of the Castle and Hradcany district. On our program you will visit the Picture Gallery of Prague Castle, St Vitus’s Cathedral, St George’s Convent and Sternberg Palace which houses the National Gallery, The Loreto and finally the incredible Strahov Monastery with its famous library. This is a day for devotees of art, history and architecture. It involves a lot of walking as all these sights are in the one city district. There will be stops for snacks and lunch. Evening: Folklore Party with Dinner; 3-course meal, local wine, entertainment of Bohemian, Moravian and Slovakian  songs and dances.

DAY 5: Options for today:
(a) A free day for you to rest, shop, just soak up the city’s atmosphere or visit that special sight you always wanted to see.
(b) Full day tour to Cesky Krumlov in the southern Bohemian countryside – a picturesque medieval town listed by UNESCO (lunch included); OR half-day tour to Terezin with its tragic history of this former concentration camp. Evening: Optional Classical performance – ballet, opera, symphony. Meals: Breakfast.

 



DAY 6: Saturday. Today you have a full day’s excursion into the countryside some 40 kms south of the city. Whilst the city itself abounds in famous palaces, there are two major castles outside the city. Your first visit will be to Konopiste Castle, the home of Archduke Franz Ferdinand whose assassination in 1914 was the spark which began WWI. The castle houses a large collection of hunting trophies, paintings and spectacular tapestries. On our agenda there is a stop for lunch. In the afternoon your journey continues through the Czech forests to the impressive Karlstein Castle standing above the Berounka River. This gothic building was founded by Charles IV. The trip back to Prague follows the Berounka and Moldavia rivers. Evening: Free.

DAY 7: After breakfast at your hotel and check out, transfers will take you to the airport for your onward destination.
